Sydney International Regatta 2002 - International sailors flock to Sydney International Regatta (SIR) 2002 |
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA-(9-12-2002) Entries for SIRs 2002 have shown how popular this event is with the Olympic, Paralympic and Youth classes with World and Europeans title holding sailors from many European and northern hemisphere nations coming to battle with the local talent.
International competitors from France, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Russia and Japan to name a few are going to give the Australian competitors a chance to test themselves against potential rivals for the next Olympics in Athens 2004. Competitors from the Youth classes have shown a keen interest in getting a chance to race against future rivals and to develop racing tactics by being involved with the SIRs regatta.
SIRs is being used by many classes to get on water skills fine tuned before going south to Sail Melbourne and across to Sail Auckland early next year as part off the Sail Down Under circuit.
Regatta organisers are pleased with entries to date and look forward to a competitive regatta for all classes. Results will be available each day after racing on the YA NSW website at www.nsw.yachting.org.au
