RIVA DEL GARDA - PIEVE DI LEDRO (TN), -(11-9-2004) Out of the podium Italy, fourth in the final of the European Team championship class 420. Gold medal to GBR One, silver to GBR Two and the third place is for the Czech Republic, team One. This first European Team Championship class 420 sentenced the victory of the English team (Stuart Hudson, Linda Eadie, Dom Johnson, Debs Kershaw, John Greenland and Bevis Field).
This morning on the waters of the lake of Ledro took place the final Round Robin with the two English teams competing for first and second place, and the other RR with Italy and the CZK One racing for third and fourth place. At the end of the `flights` GBR One defeated GBR Two (Ben Field, Karen Greenland, Andrew Cornahm, Hamish Walker, Tom Hebbert and Suzie Short), while the members of the Italian team (all members of the Società Velica of Barcola and Grignano, of Trieste) had to give the bronze medal to the East team (Lukas Neumann, David Krizek, Jakub Kozelsky, Marketa Schwarzova, Radek Smetana and Jana Landkammerova).
Nothing to do, for Italy in this European team racing championship class 420 on the lake of Ledro, defeated today also by the Czhech crew in all the two final `flights` after having lost, yesterday, in semifinals, against the English team that today is the European champion. Matteo Velicogna, Alice Spangaro, Stefania Favaretto, Francesca Mocnick, Stefano Cherin and Simone Sandri are anyway satisfied of this result although they were here, aiming the third absolute place. Next year it’ll sure be better!
This event lines the end, more or less, of the sailing season of the Associazione Lago of Ledro, that has seen three very demanding regattas in this late summer. The GrandOptical Champions Cup, Team Optimist, first, then the Woman Match Race and, finally, the European Team Racing 420 have been carried out without difficulties, with a good wind and the beautiful weather, with reward for all volunteers and organization. And next season, in 2005, it will be better.
