Olympic Games Beijing 2008 - Meeting of the coordination Commission
BEIJING, CHINA-(27-10-2004) The 3rd meeting of the IOC Coordination Commission for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games commenced today. During the next three days, the Commission will assess the progress made by the Organising Committee (BOCOG), and provide advice with regard to future progress. All stakeholders in the Olympic Movement are represented on the Coordination Commission, including the National Olympic Committees, the International Sports Federations, athletes and the International Paralympic Committee.

President Rogge visits Beijing
The Commission, supported by staff from the IOC administration, will also be joined in Beijing by IOC President Jacques Rogge, who is due to take a first-hand look at progress, also meeting with the China's leadership in addition to that of BOCOG.

General and specific issues
The Coordination Commission has come here to Beijing to see the state of preparations and to work with BOCOG towards the delivery of successful Games,` said IOC Director of Communications Giselle Davies at a press briefing that preceded the Commission's first meeting. `Plenary meetings will see us all together, to discuss general issues, while working groups will discuss more specific issues,` she added.

Eight areas of discussion
The eight areas of discussion are sport, marketing and ticketing, finance and logistics, Olympic Village and services to National Olympic Committees, media operations and broadcasting, construction, communications and Games services.

`This is the 3rd Coordination Commission meeting, but we also come here to Beijing with working groups on a regular basis,` said Olympic Games Executive Director Gilbert Felli. `There are conference calls between Lausanne and Beijing every two weeks in which a range of issues are discussed, and every day there is some form of contact between the IOC and BOCOG.`
