JPMorgan Fleming Winter Challenge - Olympic Star to race in second JPMorgan Fleming Winter Challenge
LONDON, UK-(15-12-2004) Sydney 2000 Olympic gold medallist Iain Percy MBE is to take part in the second JPMorgan Fleming Winter Challenge this weekend, 18th/19th December at Queen Mary Sailing Club. The Southampton born 28-year-old, who is on a short break from America’s Cup duty, will be using the weekend to hone his match racing skills. Percy is un-seeded in the ISAF Match Racing Rankings and will face tough challenges from Ugeniy Neugodnikov (RUS) who is ranked 20th as well as brother’s Mark and Paul Campbell-James (GBR) who are ranked 27th and 33rd respectively.

The JPMorgan Fleming Winter Challenge, in conjunction with the RYA, began on the 27th November with the first weekend’s victory going to Simon Shaw and his crew who beat tough competition from eight other teams including crews from Denmark, Italy and Russia.

More than 250 sailors from across Europe are expected to compete in at least one of the seven race weekends in the run-up to the Final on 5th/6th March 2005. Racing takes place in the RYA's fleet of J80s and the weekends are aimed at giving sailing enthusiasts the opportunity to receive coaching and training during the winter period as well as providing world class competition on home soil.

The next JPMorgan Fleming Winter Challenge weekend takes place on 15th/16th January 2005 at Queen Mary Sailing Club, Sunbury.
