BISCAYNE BAY, FLA.-(29-12-2004) More than 660 competitors from 11 countries are at Coral Reef Yacht Club in Florida competing in the Orange Bowl Regatta, making it the largest youth regatta in the country.
Strong northerly winds have prevailed for the first two days on the four race courses on Biscayne Bay in Miami, Florida. The Optimist dinghy, 300 strong, makes up the largest class. US Youth World Team member Paige Railey leads the 112-boat Laser Radial fleet after five races. After seven races on the Optimist Championship course, Danish sailor Frederik Svendsen has the lead.
Racing is also being held in the 420, Laser, and Laser 4.7 classes and the competition continues through Thursday with twelve races scheduled in each fleet. The Orange Bowl Regatta is part of US SAILING's USA Junior Olympic Sailing Festival presented by West Marine.
