Top Names Heading To Austria

ISAF World Sailing Games - Top Names Heading To Austria
ISAF HQ, UK-(24-1-2006) Russian Tornado stars, Andrey KIRILYUK and Valery USHKOV are the latest in a series of big names to have added their names to the entry list of the ISAF World Sailing Games 2006. The number three crew in the ISAF World Sailing Rankings will line up in Lake Neusiedl, Austria from 10-20 May this year, and with 1,500 sailors from 70 nations expected to take part, can expect a fierce battle for honours in the multihull event.

Last year KIRILYUK and USHKOV rose up to become ranked third best in the world after a second place at the ISAF Grade 1 Kieler Woche, victory at the ISAF Grade 2 Travemünder Woche and at top ten finish at the Tornado Worlds.

Come May, they will swap the Tornado for the Hobie Tiger, in what already looks to be an exciting, diverse and high quality fleet. The multihull event reflects the overall entry list so far, which illustrates the World Sailing Games’ broad appeal. Already entries have been received from developing sailing nations like Moldova, Mexico, the US Virgin Islands, Ecuador, Peru and Barbados. Meanwhile other big names lined up along with KIRILYUK and USHKOV include Dutch 470 pairing Sven COSTER and Kalle COSTER, experienced Olympians Carolijn BROUWER (NED) and Sebastian GODEFROID (BEL) and 49er World Champions Rodion LUKA and George LEONCHUK (UKR).

Countdown Intensifies
With little more than 100 days remaining until the starting shot will be fired to begin the ISAF World Sailing Games 2006, the build up to the Championship has been intensifying.

At the ‘holiday fair’ at the Vienna exhibition halls from 12-15 January, the ISAF World Sailing Games 2006 programme was presented to over 140,000 visitors. Great interest was shown at the World Sailing Games stand, much to the delight of the Championship organizers. 'Many visitors wanted to know in detail the exact courses of each race and gathered general information outlining the sequence of events taking place,' commented Birgit BÖHM, World Sailing Games public relations manager.
