A Solid Kick-Off For the 2005-08 Olympic/Paralympic Quadrennium

It was one of the first large ISAF Grade 1 ranking events for the new Olympic/Paralympic Quadrennium, and gauging by the quality of sailors who flocked to compete there, the timing was none-too-early and the location never better.

Champions Named in Nine Olympic and Two Paralympic Classes

Miami, Fla. USA - Champions were crowned today in nine Olympic and two Paralympic classes at US SAILING's 16th annual Rolex Miami OCR. The last of five racing days concluded with all but one of yesterday's leaders at the top of the scoreboard. Laser Radial sailor Paige Railey (Clearwater, Fla.), one of over 320 sailors from 26 countries competing on Biscayne Bay for the regatta's 16th edition, had some business to settle on the water today with Anna Tunnicliffe (Norfolk, Va.), and a good breeze interspersed with squalls helped her do it.

Miami, Fla. USA - Tomorrow is the `make it or break it` day for leaders at the Rolex Miami OCR. After four days of racing, only one day remains to secure - or sacrifice - a coveted victory in one of the nine Olympic and two Paralympic classes competing. The Rolex Miami OCR is an ISAF Grade 1 event that helps establish the rankings of elite sailors worldwide and those aspiring to become members of the US Sailing Team and Disabled Sailing Team.

Miami, Fla. USA - Only one lead change took place today at the Rolex Miami OCR when Carol Cronin’s Yngling team outpaced Sally Barkow ’s to take second in a single race. Extremely light breezes in the morning died in the afternoon, causing cancellation of racing in two Olympic classes (Tornado and Laser Radial) and completion of less races than desired in the other seven.
