Day 2 of Europe Class Worlds

Europe Class World Championship - Day 2 of Europe Class Worlds
HAMILTON, CANADA-(30-8-2002) Day two of the Europe world championship got underway in fairly light and shifty conditions yesterday, with the 109 competitors in the women’s fleet seeing varying breeze of around 7-10 knots.

The two groups were reallocated over night and a further two races were sailed. Kirsty Bonar (GBR), one of 3 heat winners of the day, along with Sarah Blanck (AUS) and Lea Richter Olesen (DEN), said. “The conditions in Hamilton are really hard and testing. Very few people are managing to be consistent and I think that will be the key to the event, we will have to see, there is still a long way to go.”

Sarah Blanck (AUS) ranked 30 in the new ISAF World Sailor Rankings is currently leading the championship after scoring two first places on the second day. She has a two point lead over Siren Sundby of Norway.

The Forecast for day 3 today is variable breeze, forecast to build over the coming days.

The competitors still have two more days of qualifying rounds before being split in gold, silver and bronze fleets, when they will race in the final series for the title of Europe world champion. Racing concludes on the 3rd September.

In the men's fleet, which is not split into qualifying groups, Soren Johnsen (DEN) leads with Bart Struyven (BEL) in second.
