PERTH, AUSTRALIA-(11-1-2003) Doug McGain sailing Code Violation from Middle Harbour Yacht Club (NSW), yesterday won his first Australian title by taking out the 10 race City Motors Holden 2003 J24 Australian Championship hosted by the Royal Perth Yacht Club.
McGain scored 14.7 points to win by a huge margin from fellow NSW sailor Stephen Girdis sailing Convicts Revenge (51.55 points) and Japanese Takumi Nakamura sailing Siesta Team (51.85 points).
McGain and his winning crew, bowman Lloyd 'BF' Edmunds, mast Sam Kernaghan, in the pit Matt Pedlow and trimmer Andrew Verdon claimed victory at the completion of eight championship races after consistently placing in a top three position in each of the championship races.
The team have put in a tremendous effort prior to the championship including participating in the recent J24 World Championship in Canada where they finished 14th and were confident of a top two placing coming into the event after finishing fourth in the 2002 championship in Sydney.
