Strathfield Pittwater and Coffs Harbour Offshore Series 2002-2003 - Sydney 38 One Designs in tight, tactical battle
NEWPOST, NSW, AUSTRALIA-(3-1-2003) There are 15 Sydney 38 One Design yachts in the 22nd running of the 226 nautical mile Strathfield Pittwater to Coffs Harbour Yacht Race, which started at 1:00pm yesterday.
Owner and skipper of Sydney 38, Conspiracy, John Paul spoke to the media centre by radio just minutes ago.
“We have just passed Broughton Island. We are steaming along under a shy spinnaker, doing 6.8knots of boat-speed. The wind is only blowing at 10 knots at the moment out of the south-southeast”.
“Two of the Sydney 38’s have moved out by a couple of miles by taking the unconventional route of heading offshore into the current. They have obviously found more wind out wide. They are The Business and AMI Jade”
“We are in amongst a group of about 8 other Sydney 38’s, all within a two-mile radius”.
“The next six hours leading into daylight and the morning “sked” will be interesting, and then we are expecting a drag race into the finish”.
