| Bermuda Gold Cup - Forecast promises action |
| HAMILTON, BERMUDA-(22-10-2003) The combination of southwesterly winds in the 20 to 30 knot range as well as the world’s best match racing teams promise an exciting morning of racing on Hamilton Harbor today for Round 1 of the Investors Guaranty Presentation of the King Edward VII Gold Cup, the second event on Swedish Match Tour 2003/2004.
Some early morning sunshine is expected to yield to afternoon rains, but the trough of wet weather descending on Bermuda brings with it what will be the week’s strongest winds as well.
Competition in Round 1 features first-to-three-points match ups in an elimination series with the winners advancing to Friday’s quarterfinal round.
The Group 1 part of the draw, who recently left the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club pier, features defending champion Jesper Radich of Denmark against Italy’s Paolo Cian of the Riviera di Rimini Sailing Team; America’s Cup legend Dennis Conner versus Bermudian Paula Lewin of Team Ace Group, who qualified by winning yesterday’s Bermuda International Women’s Match Racing Championship; six-time Bermuda Gold Cup champion and three-time America’s Cup winner Russell Coutts of Team Alinghi facing fellow Kiwi Cameron Dunn, a former member of the Oracle BMW Racing Team; and Finland’s Staffan Lindberg against America’s Cup veteran and two-time Gold Cup winner Australian Peter Gilmour of Team Pizza La.
