MIAMI, FLORIDA-(7-3-2004) Olympic Gold medallist Iain Percy and team mate Steve
Mitchell will be put to the test this week when they line up against some of
the best Star class sailors in the world at the Bacardi Cup in Miami.
RYA Team GBR sailors Percy and Mitchell have had many successes since they
stepped into the class only a few years ago, winning the world championships
in 2002 and taking the bronze medal at the same event in 2003. Last year
they finished runner up to Peter Bromby and Martin Siese of Bermuda at the
Bacardi Cup and this year will be looking to go one better.
In the Olympic year the event has attracted a huge line up of sailing stars,
amongst them many world and Olympic champions. Current world champion Xavier
Rohart of France will be amongst the line up as well as last years Bacardi
Cup winners. With the American Star class Olympic trials only weeks away
there is also going to be tough competition from the likes of Paul Cayard,
John Kostecki and Mark Reynolds.
More than 100 teams are entered in total, representing 22 countries and
racing will take place in Biscayne Bay. The event comprises of six races
with the series getting underway today and concluding on Friday 12 March.
