Sixty-five boats of twenty-one different nationalities will participate in the most significant sports event in Girona's territory

Star European Championship - Sixty-five boats of twenty-one different nationalities will participate in the most significant sports event in Girona's territory
L'ESCALA, SPAIN-(15-3-2004) Once it finished the entry deadline to participate in the 2004 Star Class European Championship, accorded following the international class rules (ISCYRA), the 4th of March, the Organizing Committee of the Regatta informs that the total number of entries received is of 65 sailors.
Among the 21 nacionalities which participate, we emphasize the 13 boats of the Italian fleet, the 8 from the Netherlands, 5 from Germany and 5 from Switzerland. The number of italian boats is determined by the importance of this Chamopionship which is going to classify them for the Olympic Games in Athens.

We underline the presence of the Canadian Ross Macdonald, Star World Championship and Bronze Medal at the Oplympics Barcelona '92; the Swedish Frederik Lööf, Star World Champion and present ranking top of the class; Serge Kats, Optimist World Champion and Alexander Hagen, also Star World Champion. We cannot forget the presence of the three Spanish teams that are: Mario Caprile and Alberto Vidosa, Roberto Bermudez and Pablo Arrarte and the team of the brothers Fernando and Antonio Seghers. The skipper Roberto Bermúdez from Caixa Galícia, the first Spanish in the world ranking, trained during the month of february in the Club Nàutic l'Escala, so that they can get a good preparation.

The Race Director, Xavi López, stated his satisfaction for the entries received: `we consider a success the participation of 21 countries, besides the european countries, there are Canada, Brasil and India. For the first time we will be able to see these teams racing in the waters of L'Escala. The organization of the event is grateful with the institutions that will participate in this event and at the same time we thank the contributions of colaborators and sponsors.`

The process that the organization follows is the verification of the 65 entries, as it is required in the Star Class rules.
