Star European Championship - Strong winds and rough seas at third day racing
L'ESCALA, SPAIN-(29-3-2004) The 3rd day of races of the European celebrated in L'Escala has been contested satisfactorily despite of the strong wind from the east that blew in the racing area.

At the beginning of the race the wind went from 14 to16 knots and the waves exceeded 2 ½ meters height.

Due to the strong wind that was increasing during the course of the race, the Jury decided to celebrate only one race.

After a general start there has been another start with black flag advice, that has been valid.

The negative point has been starred by the canadian Ross McDonald, absolut winner of yesterday's races, who has been disqualified with the black flag, for starting foretastely. There will be a minimum of 5 races for McDonald to discard today's bad result.

Today's provisional finishing order has been the following: 1st: the dutch Mark Neeleman, 2nd: the english Ian Percy and 3rd: the swedish Frederik Lööf, winner of yesterday's 1st race. The spanish Bermúdez/Arrarte have been 13th.

Carlos Ruigómez, the spanish team's coach has told us that this European is a hard training with all the rivals who still have not a place for the Olympic Games and that they are among the 6-7 countries that have options to get one of the four free places of the Star Class. Among the countries who are still pendant of classification there is also the canadian Ross McDonald. There are also 3 dutch who are among the first 7 without forgetting the 2 german teams, Pickel and Kock.

When it comes to today's winner, we have asked him which has been the maximum difficulty of today in the racing area and he has told us that the wind was not so much a problem as have been the big waves, thay are not used to sailing with that sea. Taking into account that Holand is classified for the Olympics, Neeleman says his first rivals for the olympic place in the dutch team are Serge Kats and Roy Heiner.

The 3rd racing day of the European celebrated in L'Escala has been disputed successfully despite the strong wind that blowed in the racing area.

We the race has started the wind was between 14 - 16 knots.

The weather forecast for tomorrow indicate SE winds that will lose intensity compared to today. The waves will persist in the Cathalan Coast.
