Canada takes two

Star European Championship - Canada takes two
L'ESCALA, SPAIN-(28-3-2004) Today the Swed Fredrik Lööf has commanded the first race in which Ross McDonald has been 4th. The first Italian is 18th in the provisional classification.This is a very important race for the Italian team to classificate for Athens' Olympics.The final classification on the first race is:

1- Fredrik Lööf, Sweden;
2- Nicklas Holman, Denmark;
3- Mark Neeleman, Netherlands.

The Spanish team, Bermudez-Arrarte was 19th. On the second race there was a big tension between the sailors. The start was canceled three times and valid at the fourth. At the first upwind the Spanish sailors reached the 5th place, because of a wind change, Fredrik Lööf gained the 1st place. The Spanish team had a good race and we can point up their 7th place. The german Alexander Hagen was on the 1st place of the second race. 2nd, Ross McDonald, and 3rd, the Dutch Serge Kats.

The absolut winner today has been Ross McDonald, confirming the high level of this competition. He is happy with the wind, because it permitted the development of 2 races; the good results of his team and for everybody's work to make this event possible. The Regatta organization has shown their satisfaction for the 2 races.

The weather conditions have been difficult because of the wind going between 030 and 010, and finnally, keeping on 045, NE - N. The intensity has been good for this kind of boats, it started with 6-8 knots and ended between 10-12 knots. The weather forecast for tomorrow is rain and storm, in spite of that the organization will try to celebrate 2 races to assure the Championship.

The race Direction is optimistic because in these days the climate is usually variable and there is still three days left to complete the 4 races necessary to validate the Championship. Tomorrow race is at noon.
