Star World Championship - GBR Team - Star studded line up for world championship
GAETA, ITALY-(23-4-2004) With less than four months to go until the 2004 Olympic Games, a total of 118 entries, representing 30 nations, will line up on the start to contest one of the most prestigious titles in the Star class, with the list of previous winners reading like a who’s who of yachting.

For many competing, it is the last chance to qualify their country for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, with the final four berths for the Games available from this event.

Great Britain’s Iain Percy and Steve Mitchell, who won the 2002 world championship, have already qualified themselves and the country for the Games at last years world championship where they finished with a bronze medal, a feat that they will be keen to replicate.

This event has attracted a star-studded line up including the recently crowned European champion Fredrik Loof and Anders Ekstrom of Sweden, the 1996 Atlanta gold medallist Torben Grael and Marcelo Ferreira of Brazil and the reigning world champions Xavier Rohart and Pascal Rambeau of France. Also competing will be the 1988 world champion and American Star class representative for the 2004 Games, Paul Cayard and Phil Trinter.

Racing gets underway on Sunday 25 April and a total of six races are scheduled with the event concluding on the 1 May.

Further information about the world championship can be found on the event website www.starworld2004.com.
