| AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND-(10-2-2007) Four races were sailed today for all Olympic classes except the Tornado at Singapore Airlines Sail Auckland 2007. The ISAF Grade 1 regatta being sailed at Kohimarama Yacht Club in Auckland is now half way through, with an increase in breeze expected tomorrow.
It’s still Italy, Italy at the top of the RS:X Women’s leader board at Singapore Airlines Sail Auckland, with Alessandra Sensini winning three races on day two. The current world Champion stretched out her lead on Laura Linares (ITA) and is now eight points ahead.
Barbara Kendall improved her overall standing today winning the fourth race of the day, and climbing into third behind the two Italians. Kendall has equal points with Olga Maslivets (UKR); however the kiwi has had two race wins in the seven races sailed so far.
Six nations are represented in the RS:X women’s top ten.
Maxim Oberemko was dominant on day two of Singapore Airlines Sail Auckland for the Men’s RS:X. A second and three wins on the water today lifted the rider from the Ukraine into the lead after starting the day in fourth place overall.
Julian Bontemps of France slipped to second overall, with three 3nds and a 4th in today’s racing. JP Tobin of New Zealand is in third.
Andrew Murdoch (NZL) leads the Lasers with a narrow one point lead margin on overnight leader Luka Radelic of Croatia. Murdoch had two wins today, and discards his poorest result, an 11th in the first race of the day.
The top two have a jump on the reminder of the fleet with David Weaver of New Zealand in third place, 14 points behind Radelic.
YNZ Olympic Squad sailor Jo Aleh showed form today after a poor start on day one I the Women’s Laser Radial. Starting the day in ninth place, Aleh didn’t finish outside the top three today adding two wins, a 2nd and a 3rd to the board and storming into the lead.
Meanwhile overnight leader, Laura Baldwin (GBR) slipped down to end the day in sixth place overall. Krystal Weir (AUS) sailed strongly today moving into second place, and Miranda Powrie (NZL) slipping back one place into third.
Geoff Woolley and Mark Overington slipped ahead of the youth pair, Carl Evans and Peter Burling after day two in the Open 470’s. Both of the kiwi pairs have three wins a piece on the board with close racing in the fifteen boat fleet. Andrew Brown and Nick Taylor (NZL) sit in third.
Shelley Hesson and Bianca Barbarich-Bacher (NZL) remain the leading 470 Women’s pair, sitting in sixth overall in the open fleet.
Dan Slater continued his clean sweep in the five boat Finn fleet, racking up another four wins today. The kiwi now discards a win to have an overall point score of six, with Sander Willems of the Netherlands behind him on 12 points.
Conditions on the Waitemata Harbour were similar to yesterday with around 5 knots of easterly breeze on the course at Singapore Airlines Sail Auckland 2007. The forecast for tomorrow predicts a change to south easterly winds which could rise to 20 knots with light showers.
