Team GBR in the top three at the 470 World Championships

470 World Championships - Team GBR - Team GBR in the top three at the 470 World Championships
SAN FRANCISCO, CA. USA-(25-8-2005) At the halfway mark RYA Team GBR are in the top three in both the men’s and women’s fleet at the 470 World Championships in San Francisco, California.

After three days of racing and with six races completed, Christina Bassadone and Saskia Clark are seated in second place overall behind Dutch sailors de Koning and Berkhout.  Bassadone and Clark have proved that perfecting your boat handling skills can provide results and have been using every opportunity to pass boats and make places.  Only eight points behind the leaders and with eight races to go, Bassadone and Clark have their sights set on moving into pole position.

With 64 boats entered in the men’s World Championships, the fleet has now been divided into gold and silver fleets.  After winning a bronze medal at last years World Championships, Nick Rogers and Joe Glanfield are, for the time being, back in bronze medal position.  With 19 points in total the team are only four points out of the silver medal position.  With tides as strong as four knots and blustery winds in San Francisco, Rogers and Glanfield will have to continue to push hard to gain ground on the French and Australian teams who have both been sailing exceptionally well.

With racing due to finish on Sunday 28 August 2005 the World Championship title is still up for grabs and Team GBR remain in hot pursuit of the title.
