Titles To France And Germany

Open Nissan Cup 470 European Championship - Titles To France And Germany
BALATONFÜRED, HUNGARY-(18-6-2006) The ISAF Grade C1 Open Nissan Cup 470 European Championships saw victory go to France and Germany after a wind curtailed series on Lake Balaton in Hungary. Stefanie ROTHWEILER and Vivien KUSSATZ (GER) led from start to finish to score a dominant win, whilst the Benjamin BONNAUD and Romain BONNAUD (FRA) took a one point victory after the final race.

BONNAUD and BONNAUD led a French clean sweep of the medals in the men’s fleet, finishing eighth in the final race to take victory. With the Notice of Race stating that the final race would not be scored at double points if only five or six qualifying races were completed, the eighth place was just enough for the French brothers to take the title. Third in the final race put Ronan DREANO and Ronan FLOCH (FRA) second overall ahead of fellow French crew Pierre LEBOUCHER and Vincent GAROS.

To top off an emphatic French performance, the final race was won by Nicolas CHARBONNIER and Oliver BAUSSET (FRA) who finished in fifth place overall, just behind Italians Enrico FONDA and Marco GUERRA.

Germans Dominant
In the women’s fleet ROTHWEILER and KUSSATZ had been the team to beat right from day one and held an insurmountable lead going into the final race. They finished fourth and took the title by twelve points from Sylvia VOGL and Caroline FLATSCHER (AUT). The Austrians had a great final race, taking second place to pip Marina GALLEGO and Laia TUTZO to the bronze and knock Olympic bronze medallists Therese TORGERSSON and Vendela ZACHRISSON (SWE) down into fourth place.

Japan’s Ai KONDO and Midori IKEMOTO took the bullet in the final race to move up to fifth overall.
