Tension increases as leaders keep running out with equal points

470 Junior World Championship - Tension increases as leaders keep running out with equal points
TREVEMUENDE, GERMANY-(28-7-2006) The challenge between rivals FANTELA/MARENIC (CRO) and  EYAL/YAM (ISR) continued again yesterday. Both teams won the only race of the day in their seperate Groups at the 470 Junior World Championship in front of Travemuende, Germany.

The Championship is still in the qualifing phase, but leaders start to demand their positions by running out on those who follow.
With sun, choppy waters and a NE 17 kts breeze, racing continued with race 7.  which would be the only race of the day for the Fleet of 121 participating  teams, divided into three Groups.

From the start of the 470 Junior Worlds event, all eyes are focussed on FANTELA/MARENIC (Cro) and  EYAL/YAM (ISR) who keep ruling the races in their different Groups. Yesterday again, they equally raised their scores by only 1 point up to eight points.  The race for the Title is not over at all yet while Great Brittain’s PATIENCE/GRUBE also scored a win in the remaining Group, which gives them an only three points difference on the leaders.

Greek 470 juniors VASILAS/MITTAKIS are currently in a fourth overall position and took their chances to attack.
“We chose the left side of the course but unfortunately the other side seemed top be more favourable. We rounded the top mark in 15th position. Downwind we managed to gain some places but we couldn’t cross the line better than 6th.” said VASILAS

Also Germany managed to increase chances for a position in the final Medal race. LORENZ/GEBERT crossed the finish in 2nd position which let’s them climb from a 10th to a 7th overall position after seven races.

Racing resumed today at 1100, with the qualifiers concluding on 29 July and the final Medal Race on 30 July.
